Tips for booking the perfect newborn photographer for you
By: Samantha Kallal- Sugarfoot Photography
Hey there Mom-to-be!
I wanted to pop on and give some of my tips for expectant moms on making choices for your newborn photography session and when that should be. So, if you are pregnant, trying or know someone who is this video is for you!
1. Timeline- Second trimester you should be researching for a photographer
this gives you the time to look at their work, book the shoot and not stress over it. Some photographers book up far in advance, so this gives you the best options for finding the perfect photographer for you without fear of missing out. Also, if you want a Maternity session with them as well, this is the best time frame to discuss that with them so you can schedule it for some time around the 32–34-week mark. When your bump is Bumping but you're still able to move and walk decently well.
2. Research! This is key! DO NOT just book a wedding or family photographer... no offense but this is not their wheelhouse. Search for someone who specializes in Newborn photography, check their portfolio, look for consistency in quality and a style you love. Also, decide if you are looking for a "studio newborn photographer" with posed setups, props and a studio setting OR a lifestyle session in your home, unposed and more relaxed vibe (this does mean making sure your house is tidy during a chaotic time so be mindful of that and tell your partner they will be cleaning up after the toddler that week)
3. Qualified! This is not something everyone will show you, but you can usually verify it by seeing the consistency of their portfolio if they don't showcase it, but many photographers will keep badges on their page showing off awards they have won, publications they are printed in and organizations they belong to. This is a great way to verify they are not a fly-by-night person with a camera but instead someone trusted and respected in the industry. Don't forget to check those Google reviews!
